Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum in order to improve nasal patency and breathing comfort. Unlike rhinoplasty, which also includes the aesthetic aspect of the nose, septoplasty is a functional operation, including intranasal changes.
It is performed to remove obstacles to the free flow of air through the nasal cavities.
Septoplasty improves nasal patency but does not change the appearance of the nose. The surgery effectively improves the quality of breathing, reduces the risk of sinus infections and improves sleep comfort.
If a deviated nasal septum makes breathing difficult and causes recurring health problems, it is worth consulting an otolaryngologist.
